We succeed by training the best homework coaches
Many years of running a successful tutoring business have taught us how to recognize strong homework tutors. They are typically — but not always — young college graduates who have done well in school themselves and now seek an opportunity to help others succeed. They quite likely are not employed in education but will have had some experience working with young people, perhaps as a teaching assistant or in their college tutoring center, or as a sports coach.
All coaches are trained on our HomeworkCoach methodology developed in conjunction with a lifelong learning specialist, and receive ongoing supervision and skills enhancement. Our tools include our proprietary 10-lesson Executive Function e-learning course.
Note that your coach will probably not be a learning specialist or ADHD behavioral therapist. Such experts typically have their own offices and (higher) fee schedule. We believe a nurturing upbeat individual, proven to be a good organized student themselves, can be trained to be an effective homework coach who will make a real difference to your child’s grades and attitudes towards homework.
We interview each homework coach, check references, and ask them to undergo a criminal background check or provide evidence of a recent check. Parents receive full credentials and talk to the tutor via telephone before the first session. In addition we guarantee the first meeting. If you have any reservations about your homework coach, we will assign you an alternate coach and you will not be expected to pay for that session.
